Most of Dresden was destroyed by the RAF in 1945
....It had no strategic importance and it was far too close to the end of the war for its destruction to have any use anyway...
However it topped the list of "most burnable german cities"... and so thousands of tons of explosives and incendiaries were dropped on it, creating a firestorm.
